WARNER, (Ella) Jean Passed away at the Kelowna General Hospital on Friday, June 6, 2014. "Auntie Jean" was born on July 2, 1917 in a stone house in rural Saskatchewan. Her father J. A. Warner was the municipal secretary and postmaster there. Her mother, Janet was very active in the community life there. She was the youngest child in a family of seven. Jean attended Normal School and taught in rural schools in Saskatchewan and Ontario. After the war she taught returning soldiers who wished to further their education. Later she taught in the public school system in Winnipeg until her retirement in 1978. In 1980 she moved to Kelowna and became active in a variety of interests including Sunshine Theatre, Kelowna Historical Society and St. Paul's United Church. Jean loved golf and was an active member of the Kelowna Golf and Country Club. She enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge. Her extensive travels included trips to Scandinavia, Europe, U.S.A. and Northern Canada. She was predeceased by her brothers Clare, Albert and Jimmy Warner and sisters Grace Ferguson and Gwen Stinson, nephews Jack, Glenn, George and Don Warner. Surviving nieces and nephews include Graeme and Bill Ferguson, Janet Kroitor, Mary Hooper, Dennis, Mac and Gilbert Warner, Peg Lidster, Pat Carpick, Lynne Murphy and Randy Stinson to all of whom she was very special. If friends so desire donations may be made to a charity of their choice. A private family memorial service is being held in Kelowna. The ashes will be interred later in Saskatchewan.
