JESPERSEN, Nora Vivian It was with great sadness that we said good-bye to a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Nora Vivian Jespersen passed away peacefully at Lakeview Lodge in Westbank, British Columbia on Tuesday, June 3, 2014. Nora was born on May 12, 1938 in Cabri, Saskatchewan to parents, Carl and Helen Ek. Growing up, she spent time in Saskatchewan and Kelowna, British Columbia. After graduating from Kelowna Secondary School, Nora moved to Calgary to start her career working in the Cancer Clinic. Shortly after arriving, she met her husband of 54 years, Garry Jespersen. After a whirlwind romance, Garry and Nora were married and settled in Red Deer, Alberta. Over the years, Garry and Nora, along with their three girls, Brenda (Graf), Karen (Luciak) and Diane (Finnie), moved several times between Alberta and BC. Faith and family were incredibly important to Nora. She was often found in the kitchen baking or cooking. Many friends and family have fond memories of her homemade pies. Nora loved to play table games, often winning when playing Mexican Train. She also loved playing with her grandchildren. One of Nora's favourite activities was to go for long walks or hiking one of the many trails around Kelowna. She was often heard to say, "I can't go fast, but I can go far". Even with the diagnosis of Alzheimer's ten years ago, Nora exuded a gentle grace and dignity. Throughout her sickness, she continued to be kind, loving and gentle. Caregivers at Lakeview Lodge commented that Nora would gently touch their faces and smile, as if to say thank you when words were no longer possible. Saddened that she is gone, we are grateful for the assurance that Nora has gone to a better place and we look forward to the day when we will meet her face to face once again. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Mission Creek Alliance Church in Kelowna, BC. Condolences may be sent to jespy@shaw.ca
