VERNON, Norman Raymond May 19, 1949 - June 13, 2014 Ray passed away almost 3 months after being diagnosed with a brain tumor. Born in Vancouver, Ray attended UBC, married in 1970, and chose a career with Safeway for whom he worked 21 years. He and his family transferred from Vancouver to Port Alberni, Powell River, Vernon, Kamloops, Terrace, and North Delta. Finally in 1986 they settled in Penticton, where he bought into IGA, which he managed until 2004. Ray enjoyed gospel music, renovating and painting houses, and world travel, including 40 trips to Hawaii, his all time favourite. Ray is known for his hard work and dedication to his church (First Baptist), his career/community, and most of all to his family. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Kathryn (Gorman), his three children: Norman (Heather), Sheri, Laura Stigall (Josh), and his six living grandchildren: James, Kelly, Cordelia, Braeden, Tyler, and Kaiden. Ray is also sadly missed by his father, Norman, and sisters Nancy Hoy (Bob) and Lorene, as well as many extended family members. He is predeceased by his first granddaughter, Rebecca, and his mother Dorothy. Having accepted Jesus as his Saviour at the age of 14, Ray looked forward to spending eternity in God's home. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 pm on June 21 at First Baptist Church, 1498 Government St., Penticton, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Maple Springs Bible Camp, 5247 Inga St. Peachland, BC. www.maplesprings.ca
