STANLEY, Rodger James Colin May 4, 1942 - May 22, 2014 Our father, Rodger, slipped peacefully from this earth on the morning of May 22nd, seven years to the day our mother, Rose Motkoski Stanley, passed away. Rodger was a life-long learner and a self-taught man of many interests. From gardening to beekeeping to nature he read and taught us and others the wonders of nature. Rodger was born in Powell River and moved to Arkansas in his youth where he graduated from high school in Little Rock. He travelled the US extensively and returned home to BC in the mid-60's. Mom and Dad lived on a small hobby farm in Sullivan Station, Cloverdale, raising goats, cattle, chickens, ducks and every year grew a large garden. Dad ran a small saw-filing, motor repair business and later a U-haul concrete business. He was a long-time volunteer firefighter for the Surrey Fire Department (Sullivan Station). On retiring in the early 90's Dad and Mom moved to Princeton where they joined clubs and volunteered in the community. In 2004 they moved to Dauphin Park in Penticton where they met many friends and lived out their days. Rodger was a devoted father and grandfather, a good neighbour, and a happy, joyful person. His many kindnesses will be remembered fondly by his friends and family. He is survived by his natural children: James (Gloria, children Lorreine and Romalee) and Vernita Cespedes (Freddy, daughter Julia); his stepchildren: Audrey Baker (children Calvin and Laura), Wayne Antifaoff (Sue) and Micheal (Laurel, children Patricia and Micheal); his very special friend, Betty; and his extended family, the Motkoskis, Stanleys, and Cos. We will miss and remember his easy laugh, bright mind and kindness, and are awed by the synchronicity of his joining our mom on the same date. Love is forever. Private family service. Donations to Moog and Friends Hospice in Penticton are gratefully appreciated.
