GAMMER, MARIA Passed away on Friday, July 11th at the age of 88. Born in Mali Tabor, Croatia on February 18, 1926 Maria saw and experienced much in her eighty-eight years as she and her husband, Alex and young son, Nicholas, escaped Eastern Europe and immigrated to Canada to accept the challenges of a new life. Eventually the family, now numbering four with the arrival of her daughter, Anna, settled in Naramata in 1962. Naramata was a place of special charm and beauty for Maria. "Marica" as she was affectionately known, touched the hearts of people from all walks of life with her straight foward manner, generosity and warmth. Maria was predeceased by her beloved husband, Alex, in 2003 and daughter, Anna, in 2008. Maria is survived by her brother, Tony Crnigoy and family in Penticton, her son, Nicholas (Bernadette); their three sons, Alexey, Dimitri and Lev, as well as her son-in-law, Rob Scagel and his two sons, Tyler and Alan and great grand-daughter, Ella. Maria was a wonderful mother and good friend to all whose paths she crossed. Funeral services will be held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church (361 Wade Ave. W. Penticton) on Friday, July 18th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Moog and Friends Hospice.
