COLBECK, Florence Kathleen On Saturday, July 19, 2014, a grand lady quietly slipped away leaving a large family and many friends. Florence leaves behind her brothers Dick, Jim and Bob, daughter Wendy, son Peter and his wife Nanci, grandson Jason and partner Simonette and great grandson, Jaoquin. Born December 18, 1914, Florence was the only daughter of Fred and Edna Beairsto, raised with seven brothers in Sedgewick, Alberta. After being educated in Alberta and California, Florence moved to Vancouver where she married Garth Colbeck in 1939. During the Second WW her husband and 4 brothers join the services, resulting in the loss of brothers Carl and Frank. Florence and Peter went "home" to Sedgewick to be with her parents. Following the end of the war, Florence, Garth and Peter relocated to Vancouver in 1946 where they were joined by daughter Wendy. The fifties saw Florence busy raising Peter and Wendy as well as being the Colonel's wife when Garth took command of the BC Regiment. Her duties included hosting the Lieutenant Governor and Governor General. When Garth passed away in 1966, Florence returned to accounting for Premier Cable Vision, retiring in 1979. Accompanied by her mother, Edna, she then moved to Kelowna where they celebrated Edna's 100th birthday in 1986. In 1999, brother Jim came to live with Florence and together in 2008, they moved to Missionwood Retirement Resort. Florence loved her family and was happiest when her entire family gathered. Bridge and gardening gave her much pleasure and she also enjoyed travel which she did extensively with her brothers in her latter years. Florence loved the company of the family dogs Penny, Tarquin, Vulcan, Benji, Bo and Jackson. She was always very bright and aware of the world around her. Florence certainly kept us on our toes. The family would like to thank the management and staff of Missionwood for helping make Florence's past 6 years so enjoyable. Special thanks to Dr. Katrina Best and our gratitude also to the doctors and nurses at Kelowna General Hospital for the kindness and care they gave Mom. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's Anglican Church on Wednesday, July 30th, 2014 at 2:00 pm. For those so wishing, we respectfully suggest a donation to the BC Children's Hospital in lieu of flowers.
