HOLM, HILLMEN MAURICE On July 30, 2013 the patriarch of our family passed away peacefully in the South Okanagan Hospice House, Kelowna, BC. He was born July 3, 1918 on the homestead farm near Watrous, SK. He is predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Jean Mills, his older sister, Genevieve Barker, and younger sisters, Elvira Hedlin and Hazel Snyder as well as his parents, Christian and Emma (Skrove) Holm, his son, Howard Holm, daughter, Myrene Kartik, grandson, Christopher Wright, great granddaughter, Bailey Wright. He is survived by son, Clifford (Mazel), and daughter, Marjorie (John) Wright and son-in-law, John Kartik, plus 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Hillmen loved the prairies where he grew up on the farm and became a young teacher and principal in a rural school at Renown, SK. During the war years, he was an RCAF wireless operator and served in Canada and overseas in England. He went to University of Saskatchewan and studied agriculture graduating in 1951 with a Masters degree in Soil Sciences. For 30 years he traveled the province of Saskatchewan for the Government as a Soil Consultant locally and internationally to institute soil management practices that increased farm production, controlled soil erosion, and combatted soil salinity. He and Jean retired to Penticton, BC where he was tireless in soliciting funds for the Adventist Development and Relief Agency and in serving his community. He is remembered for his devotion to God and family, his friendly smile and handshake, and his belief in Jesus' second coming. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 07, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rutland Seventh-day Adventist Church, 130 Gertsmar Road, Kelowna, BC officiated by Pastor Brian Hawes. Reception to follow. Interment will be at 2:30 pm at Lakeview Cemetery, 775 Lower Bench Road, Penticton, BC. In memory of Hillmen, donations to ADRA Canada would be greatly appreciated.
