HERBERT, Frederick H. Feb. 3, 1929 - July 19, 2014 Fred Herbert passed away peacefully in his home on July 19th at the age of 85. Fred is survived by his wife and best friend Adele, sons Gordon (Sari) and Tim (Sandy), daughter Cathie (James), brother John (Ann), 8 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Fred was born in Edmonton, Alberta to Frederick Howard Herbert and Elsie Mable Herbert. He graduated from UBC in 1950 with Honors in Political Science and Economics. He then graduated in Law from UBC in 1953. He had an extensive practice in both civil and criminal law for the Federal and Provincial Crown and the Supreme Court of BC. Fred was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1970. He had a great passion for the law, helping others and was a member of the bar for 60 years. He was chairperson of the Pacific Regional Counsel, which was the senior advisory body to the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans. Fred and Adele retired to Halfmoon Bay and Fred became an active member of the Sechelt Capilano University Eldercollege where he presented courses in law and organized the course "Law for Senior's". He was also a member of the Sechelt Golf and Country club. Fred was an ardent fisherman and spent his early summers guiding out of Painters Lodge in Campbell River. He was a history buff, had a great interest in politics, loved boating, the cottage at Piers Island, being with his family and friends, and of course, he loved his Scotch. Fred is now resting peacefully in the "Big Tyee Pool in the Sky."
