BEKHUYS, Jan (Johannes) Passed away September 17th at Cottonwoods Care facility in Kelowna, British Columbia. He was born in the village of Vasse, Holland on December 3, 1930 where he lived until immigrating to Canada in 1953. Jan worked in sales for most of his career. As the quintessential salesman, his family would joke that he could sell ice to an eskimo! Jan was recognized by many as he enjoyed walking in his neighborhood, often stopping to chat with old (and new!) friends. Jan will be remembered by his twinkly smile, harmonica playing and unusual (but very effective) putting style. In his younger years, Jan could be found on the golf course or the ski hill. During his down time, Jan was always a fan of European soccer, hockey and football. Jan was one of the founding organizers of youth soccer in the Okanagan Mission in the late 1960s. Jan is survived by his three children: Tim Bekhuys of Bowen Island, B.C.; Kendall Bekhuys of Red Deer, Alberta; and Jody Bekhuys of Kelowna, B.C. He has six grandchildren; Brett, Ami, Alison, Kennedy, Jemma and Hayden. Always close to his heart were his siblings and their families in Holland and Luxembourg, parents: Hermanus and Maria Bekhuis (deceased); and siblings: Henry Bekhuys; Gerard Bekhuys (deceased); Riki OudeLuttikhuis (deceased); Truus Evers; Herman Bekhuys (deceased); and Alphons Bekhuys. A graveside service will be held at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 2850 Dry Valley Road, on Friday, Sepetmber 26th at 2:00 pm.
