DAGG, James Gordon With heavy hearts, we announce the passing in Kelowna, BC at the age of 83 on September 24, 2014 of the man known as 'Gord' to his friends, 'Dad' to his children, and 'Pakka', 'Papa', or 'Zaida' to his grandchildren. Gord was born and raised in Toronto, where he went to Hillcrest Community School for kindergarten (the same school as two of his grandchildren). He attended Lawrence Park Collegiate for high school where he met Martha at stamp club, his future wife of sixty years. Gord always reveled in the pursuit of knowledge, attaining numerous degrees and distinctions, including a BComm and MA in Education from the University of Toronto, a certificate in Management Studies from the University of Oxford, and status as a certified Chartered Accountant and registered Industrial and Cost Accountant. He worked at the accounting firm McDonald Currie as well as the Federal Development Bank, before he found his long-term place in education at Sir Sandford Fleming College in Peterborough, ON at its founding in 1967 until his retirement in 1989. In addition to teaching, he also served as Chairman of the Business Division. Gord was most fond of travel and family and was able to combine the two on multiple occasions. In 1973-74, he took time off from Fleming to traverse across Europe in an orange Volkswagen van with Martha and their five children. In 2009, he and Martha took nearly the entire, now 20-person, Dagg family on a week-long cruise in the Caribbean. Through these trips, Gord and Martha created invaluable memories for the whole Dagg family. Best described as a laid-back lover of the literary classics, the ocean and black currant jam, Gord exuded profound warmth, kindness and sincerity to the many people whom his life touched. He was a man of true integrity, who held his principles above all else. He will be remembered affectionately by his dear wife Martha, their five children Geoff (Lynne Werker), Norm (Jennifer), Paul (Carol Ward), Alexandra, and Gillian (Jim Foster), and their thirteen grandchildren Aaron, Adrienne, Andre, Alex, Eric, Andrew, Olivia, Cameron, Leah, Lewie, Nikki, Allyson, and Julia. We will all miss his unwaveringly dignified presence greatly. A special note of thanks to the caring staff of the Interior Health Palliative Care team.
