ANDREAS, Joseph (Joe) It is with deep sorrow that the family of Joe Andreas announces the passing of their beloved brother, uncle and friend in Penticton, BC on Sept. 9 2014. He was 86 years old. Joe spent the last two years in the excellent care of the staff at Westview Place Extended Care. He was the unofficial 'greeter' at the Nurses Station where visitors and clients alike were met with a warm hello, a big smile, and especially for the ladies, a mischievous wink and kiss thrown their way. Blessed with a quick wit and sometimes a risque sense of humour, Joe had a reply for any greeting he received from all who came in contact with him. This was definitely a throw back to his many years working as a bartender, the longest of which was at Three Gables Hotel in Penticton. Bartending was his love because of the contact with people that 'this career' afforded him. Joe had many friendships, some of which were formed as a young man and endured throughout the years; Clair Doerkson, Ray Eiler, and Ward Bertram, to name a few, were like brothers to him. Although never marrying and raising his own children, he was "Papa Joe" to the children of his friends, recent years, to Carol-Joy, Spring, and Shanna, who spent much of their time both at his home and at Westview. Prior to bartending Joe was in partnership with his brothers, George and Martin (Pat) in Piapot, Sask., where they were co owners of the restaurant called the Java Shop in the early 1950's. Joe was predeceased by his mother, father, step father and siblings: Hilda Bodnar, George Andreas, Erna Glover and Albert Andreas. Left to mourn his passing are his sisters Ida and Margaret, and brother Martin (Pat), as well as many nieces and nephews. We wish to express our sincere and heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and care givers who contributed so much to Joe's comfort and well being while he was at Westview. At Joe's request no funeral will be held. Interment will be at a later date in the family plot at Maple Creek, Sask. Donations in Joe's memory may be made to the local Salvation Army or charity of your choice.
