WESTIE, Margaret (nee Beard): Born in Wallington, England, Jan. 14, 1925. She died Oct. 1, 2014. She is survived by her brother, John Beard; her husband, Andrew; son, Stuart; daughter, Janet; grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, etc. Margaret met her husband during WWII when he was in England. Their courtship was by weekly letter as Andrew spent the next 2 years fighting in Italy while Margaret spent her time working on the war effort in England. They married at the end of the war and Margaret emigrated to Canada. She arrived in Kelowna in 1946 where she had her son. In 1951, dad joined the Air Force and the family moved to Halifax where Janet was born. The family arrived back in BC in 1965 and settled in Vancouver. Marg and Andy retired to Kelowna in 1974. Margaret was a devoted housewife, but also very accomplished in her career as a stenographer. She worked for the CO of Army Base, Camp Borden, the manager of DVA, North Bay, and finally, for the Registrar of SFU. She loved homemaking, crafts, gardening, etc. She loved nature and was always feeding the birds. She also volunteered for the SPCA, the cancer society and other organizations. She had been a good athlete in school. She passed peacefully after a very full life. We would like to thank all the Residential Care Staff at Mountainview Village for the excellent care our mother received during her stay.
