GENEREUX, ANN M. (MACKINNON): With deep sadness we, the family, announce the passing of Ann M. (MacKinnon) Genereux, 88, of New Waterford, Cape Breton County, Nova Scotia, who died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, November 20, 2014, at Summerland, British Columbia. Ann was born and raised in New Waterford and was the daughter of the late John J. MacKinnon and Isabel (Campbell) MacKinnon. In 1947 Ann moved to Montreal, Quebec where she took a job with Prudential Assurance Co. and had many good times with all her girlfriends from Nova Scotia. In the early 1950s in Montreal she met a special man on a streetcar. His name was William A. (Bill) Genereux, who became the love of her life. They were married over 50 years until Bill's passing. Ann is survived by her children, William J. Genereux (Toronto, ON), Linda A. Genereux (New York, NY) and Edward R. Genereux (New Westminster, BC), and by her grandchildren, Thomas, Inez, Alison, Eve, Wolfgang and Mackenzie. The Genereux family lived in Montreal and then Rosemere, Quebec, until 1967 when Bill was transferred to work on the west coast. That summer they piled into a '65 Chev and drove to Vancouver, British Columbia to start a new life. In the 1970s Ann travelled extensively with Bill on business trips worldwide, often to International Air Transport Association events. In the early 1980s, in their retirement Ann and Bill relocated to Summerland, British Columbia, living in Trout Creek at the edge of Okanagan Lake, playing golf, boating and hosting visitors during the summer months and spending winter months at their second home in Phoenix, Arizona. In Vancouver, Ann was an active volunteer with the Women's Auxiliary at St. Paul's Hospital, running the gift shop. Later Ann would go on to become a big supporter of the Shopping Channel on television. In Summerland she was an active volunteer with Bill in the Rotary Club. She is fondly remembered as a baker of fruit pies, date squares, cookies and cakes, and as an annual maker of green tomato pickles she called chow. Ann is survived by her sisters Mary MacGillivary (Sydney, NS), Willena MacKinnon (Phoenix, AZ), Theresa (Pat) Lee (Studio City, CA), sisters-in-law Sadie (Francis) MacKinnon (Rochester, NH), Kay (Roddie) MacKinnon (New Waterford, NS), and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brothers Donald, Francis, Alexander and Roderick, sister-in-law Peggy MacKinnon, and brother-in law Edward MacGillivary. In keeping with Ann's wishes her ashes will be interred next to Bill's at Lakeview Cemetery, nestled below the Penticton sign on Munson Mountain in Penticton, British Columbia. There will be a memorial mass at Holy Child Catholic Church, 14010 Rosedale Avenue, Summerland, on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at 10:30 am. Interment is at 12 pm. Reception to follow.
