ZILKIE, ARTHUR (ART) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Arthur (Art) Zilkie on August 09, 2013 at the age of 96. Art was born in Ridgeville, Manitoba on Dec 30, 1916. He lived most of his life in Winnipeg where he worked as a foreman for Manitoba Hydro before retiring to Summerland, BC. Left to cherish his memory are his son Barry, his sister Eleanor, his daughter-in-law Elizabeth (Liz), many nieces, nephews and friends. Art lead an active joyful life and passed his exuberance onto everyone he met. He loved children, stopping by in the streets and malls to make the littlest ones smile and giggle as he made eyes at them. Sports were his passion. He loved curling, golfing with his buddies at Sumac Ridge, watching hockey with a close friend or discussing the latest baseball scores with whomever would listen. He was pre-deceased by his wife Anne. Art was a loving and caring husband. Together they enjoyed all aspects of life, from picking fruit and harvesting vegetables from their Okanagan gardens in summer, to travelling to Yuma Arizona for winter vacations. A celebration of Art's life will held at the Summerland Funeral Home, 13205 Rosedale Ave., Summerland BC, on Saturday Aug 31, 2013 at 10:30AM. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Penticton Hospital and Moog and Friends Hospice House for their compassionate care of Arthur. If friends so desire donations in Art's memory can be made to the BC Cancer Agency. Condolences may be directed to the family through providencefuneralhomes.com
