BETKE, Gertrud Victoria Irene (nee Ruccius): May 27, 1916 - December 24, 2014. On December 24, 2014, Gertrud Betke of Edmonton, formerly of Kelowna, passed away peacefully at the age of 98 years. Predeceased in 2008 by her husband, Fred Betke, she is survived by their four children: Carl (Doreen) Betke in Edmonton, Arthur (Dorothy) Betke in Prince George, Barbara (Donald) MacKay in Langley and Bernard (Laraine) Betke in Lethbridge as well as her sister Kay Weber in Winnipeg. 11 grandchildren mourn her passing: Heidi Robinson, Monika Edwards, Lorelei Betke and Juliane Zinken; Jeffrey, Jason and Aaron Betke; Genevieve MacKay; Gillian, Katherine and Jonathan Betke; and 16 great-grandchildren. She also leaves many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. The family wishes to acknowledge with gratitude the kind and thoughtful care provided for Gertrud by the staff of the Good Samaritan Southgate Care Centre. A Celebration of Gertrud's life will take place Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Hosanna Lutheran Church, 9009-163 Street, Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Lutheran Theological Seminary, Saskatoon or Canadian Lutheran World Relief.
