VIEN, Raymond George: (1926 - 2015) Following a long illness, Raymond G. Vien passed away on January 8th, 2015 in Kelowna, British Columbia. He was the son of the late Senator Thomas Vien and the late Anna Dionne. He leaves to mourn, his wife of 59 years Madeleine Demers, his two children Louise and Andre (Rebecca Hill), as well as his grandson Alexandre Raymond (Alex). He was the brother of the late Georgette (the late Robert Major), the late Jean, the late Madeleine (the late Andre Bachand), the late Michel (the late Marie-Louise), the late Louise Vien Mauffette, the late Paul (Francoise Beaubien), Helene and Therese (Andre Clermont). Also his Demers in-laws: Robert (Liliane Densky), and Marielle (the late Michel Guenette), and, numerous Vien and Demers nieces and nephews who will always remember his pragmatic and helpful nature, his humour and his deep voice. He was a McGill University graduated lawyer. He was a pioneer of corporate law in oil & gas when he began in the 1950's with the internationally reputed firm Petrofina from Belgium (now Total), until the time of his retirement in 1987 with then PetroCanada following an acquisition. In 1980, he began his "adventure" to Western Canada moving to Calgary with his company to be closer to the oil boom demands and the rocky mountains which he loved. His initial two years commitment away from Montreal never ended. He chose to stay and retire out west spending much time enjoying skiing, golfing and the outdoors in Invermere, British Columbia, which, he left only three years ago for the beautiful and milder climate of the Okanagan Valley. Raymond was a devoted family man who enjoyed being active, and he was especially passionate about skiing. He was a tireless volunteer assuming numerous roles spanning forty years in different competitive alpine skiing organizations starting in Quebec's Laurentian mountains including St-Sauveur-des-Monts, which was always very dear to him, and later in Alberta. He was proud to have reached the highest echelon of officiating as a Federation Internationale de Ski (F.I.S.) technical delegate which brought him countless treasured experiences, including, two personal highlights during his involvement at the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid 1980, and in his leadership role for the 1988 Calgary Winter Games. The family wishes to thank the staff at Missionwood Retirement Resort where Madeleine continues to live, as well as, express their endless gratitude to the Village at Mill Creek staff for their excellent care, tireless dedication, and for their compassionate approach during his stay the past twenty months. The family will host a Celebration of Life for Papa in June in Montreal, where, Raymond will also be laid to rest at Cimetiere Notre-Dame-des-Neiges.
