SMITH, Constance Lily: Passed away peacefully on February 12, 2015 at the age of 93. Connie is lovingly remembered by her son Mark, daughter-in-law Mary, daughter-in-law Donna (Glen Todd), nieces Kelly Johnson and Dan, Rae Killoran and Guy, grandson Ryan Utigard and Monika, granddaughters Shannon Bliss and Richard, Jennifer Leisch, Nicole Leisch (Brian Hutch), and great-grandchildren Livia, Quinna, Kael, Avery, Brent, Ty, Brody and Gavin. Connie was predeceased by her loving husband Gordon and her oldest son Farley. Born in Vantage, Saskatchewan on November 29, 1921, she learned to play the piano at a young age and travelled by train throughout rural Saskatchewan teaching piano lessons, accompanying singers, and playing the organ in the Church. In 1947 Connie and Gord moved to Kelowna where she was very involved with Theatre Kelowna as well as teaching Kelowna children piano, music theory and history and was the organist at the two United Churches. Both Connie and Gord were very involved with the Kelowna Lion's Club as well. She took up golf and eventually became President of the B.C. Ladies Golf Association. An avid gardener, Connie grew the most beautiful roses. She was an ardent quilt maker, sewing everything by hand, and she knit sweaters, scarves and mittens for all the kids - always putting nickels in the thumbs for good luck. Many thanks to Dr. and Bev Loken, the Kingwells, the staff at Cottonwoods, the staff at Westwood Retirement Residence and a special thank you to the caregivers at Brookhaven for the loving care they gave Connie in her last year. There will be no service by request but, as Connie was a dog lover, never being without a loyal English Setter or Cocker Spaniel, please make a donation to the Kelowna S.P.C.A. in her memory.
