BURKART, Clifford: It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather Clifford Alvin Burkart, Wednesday March 18 at the Kelowna General Hospital ICU. Cliff is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy and their children Lynn (Mel), Brian (Connie), Paul (Eve) and Lea Ann (Allan), grandchildren Caitlin, Jessica, Lucas, Kyra, Julia, Alana and Lauren. Predeceased by parents Alvin and Lydia and brothers Maurice and Gordon, sister Mildred. Cliff has three surviving siblings, Harvey, Marlene and Gayle. Born in Maple Creek Saskatchewan August 28th 1929, Cliff served in the RCAF from 1947 to 1957 flying Lancaster aircraft. While stationed in Newfoundland, Cliff met and married the love of his life, Dorothy and after discharging from the forces, returned to western Canada. Following a brief hiatus, Cliff returned to flying and enjoyed thousands of hours in the air until his retirement in 1989. Following retirement, Cliff and Dorothy moved to Kelowna where Cliff was able to enjoy many happy years golfing, travelling and spending time with family and friends. Cliff will be remembered for his quiet, kind and thoughtful spirit; a gentleman devoted to his family and friends. Cliff, you will be greatly missed by all and lovingly remembered with pencil in hand completing the daily crossword puzzle, teaching grandchildren the art of crib and your appreciation for humor. As per Cliff's wish, a small family memorial will be planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.springfieldfuneralhome.com, 250-860-7077.
