DesBrisay, A. George: Nov 4, 1932 - Mar 22, 2015. George left us suddenly Sunday morning as he returned from Mexico with Cam, Caren and Steven. In typical George fashion, he left us on his own terms. While we are shocked and saddened, we also know he would have wanted it this way - with his family close, never a burden to anyone, with all his faculties intact. George was born and raised in Penticton, graduated from UBC Commerce in 1954 and started his own CA firm in Penticton: DesBrisay Hack. He joined Peat Marwick Mitchell in 1967, moved to Vancouver in 1968, and retired in 1992 as Senior Partner at KPMG. He was also part of many Boards, however he was most proud of his work as Chairman of the Vancouver General Hospital and the VGH Foundation. George is survived by his three children, Cam, Mary and Rob, their spouses Caren, Nick and Sara, his eight grandchildren, Melissa, Paul, Steven, Samantha, Nicholas, Sydney, Crosbie and Jordan, and ex-wife and friend Trish. We particularly want to acknowledge and thank Marg who was an important companion to George. George became a father figure and friend to many and was never shy to share his opinion. If he ever gave you hell or offered you a drink, you knew you were part of the inner circle. He truly enjoyed all of your company. George, thank you for raising us, teaching us the necessity of hard work, the value of a dollar, a strong sense of ethics and the joy of a good drink. You were loved and will be missed more than you know, and we can still hear you saying, "God dammit, hurry up!" A celebration of life will be held in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the VGH Foundation at http://vghfoundation.ca/donate/in-memory.
