STEVENSON, MARY ALMA Our much beloved Alma died peacefully at Haven Hill in her 101st year, on August 28th, surrounded by the love of family and friends. Alma was born in Oil Springs, Ontario, October 8, 1912 to William Joseph and Bertha Jane Sheppard, the youngest of 4 children, and a descendant of United Empire Loyalists. In 1914, the family homesteaded in Saskatchewan near Macrorie. Alma attended high school in Prince Albert and Saskatoon and Normal school in Moose Jaw. She met the love of her life, Tom Stevenson, while teaching at Zelhar School, near Harris, Saskatchewan. They moved to Port Arthur, Ontario, then to Red Rock, Ontario and retired to Penticton in 1971. Alma leaves her daughters, Pauline (Frank) Trenouth and Alison Stevenson (Stephen Harrison) and grandchildren, Amy (James), Peter (Jackie), Matthew (Bronwen) and Madeleine and great grandchildren, Jacqueline, Reuben, Otis, Dahlia and Miles. She was predeceased by husband Tom in 1978; sons, Ronald in 1945 and Thomas in 2006 and by her parents; brother, Ray and sisters, Kathleen and Margaret. Alma lived a simple life, full of gratitude. Although she had been a school teacher by profession, she always considered herself a "fixer". The family all cherish things that she sewed, stitched or repaired and have fond memories of home-made bread and Alma and her tool box. She believed that we all need beauty in our lives. She loved words and could quote at length from countless poems and plays. She will be remembered for her grace and wisdom. The family thank the staff at Haven Hill for their care of Alma, dear friend, Pat Dawson for her faithful visits and Dr. Wren for her kind care of Alma these many years. A family graveside will be held. Arrangements in care of Everden Rust Funeral Services.
