Gary was born in Edmonton, Alberta. He graduated from high school in Penticton in 1969, and from the Electrical Electronics Technology program at BCIT in 1971. He began his career working for the BC Telephone Company and then moved on to become a marine electrician in the oil industry in 1980. He worked as a chief electrician and inspector on oil rigs, land and sea, and travelled to every continent except the Antarctic, commuting from Halfmoon Bay. Gary was a wonderful human being, full of curiosity, playfulness and adventure. He had a wicked sense of humour and loved a good discussion, was immensely generous to people of all ages and loved learning. He was a master of many trades, a creator, inventor, cabinet maker, wood turner, and artist. He was a loving father, husband, brother, uncle, great-uncle, and friend. Gary leaves behind his wife Val, daughter Jodi, son Nathan, sister Shelley, in-laws Joy, Anne, Reg, Jean, nieces Jen, Erin, Kate, Georgia and many many other family and friends. His passing leaves an enormous Gary-sized hole in our lives. He will be dearly missed and always loved. There will be a celebration of his life on Saturday, August 22nd at the Sunshine Coast Botanical Gardens 5491 Mason Road, Sechelt from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to BC Children's Hospital.
