FOURNIER, Ronald James: Dec. 2, 1940 – June 3, 2015 There are not too many battles Ron Fournier did not win, but with great sadness we announce he lost the courageous fight against esophageal cancer on June 3, 2015. Ron grew up in Haney (Hammond) BC, but escaped to the warm, sunny town of Oliver in 1973. Here Ron planted his roots – he cultivated a life of farming, family and friends. Ron was considered a “maverick” when he and his business partner became the first independent fruit growers to sell directly to retail companies. Years of work crews were indoctrinated into choruses and dance moves to “Sweet Caroline” and Conway Twitty's “You've Never Been This Far Before” – (Bom Bom Bom). The farm evolved from fruit trees to vines and was the gathering place for hard work, life lessons, good wine and a ton of laughter. The early morning “coffee banter” along with evening poolside debates, storytelling and solving world affairs were a daily routine…and did we mention good wine? Ron's influence was far reaching, whether you agreed or not. He was politically active – running campaigns and even serving time on the hospital board. He also gave to various charities close to his heart; Children's Telethon, Families in Need and more recently, his contribution to raising funds and awareness for ALS. Ron could often be heard yelling out answers to “Wheel of Fortune”. HIS greatest fortune however, was not in monetary terms – it was his love for family, friends and the farm. Ron was a proud member of Fairview Mountain Golf Club for many years, where his comical antics and 26 verbal swing thoughts – then repeated, will be remembered and missed by all. Ron was inclusive, lived larger than life and was passionate with all his endeavours. He will be so greatly missed by his family – we love you! A celebration of life for Ron will be held at Fairview Mountain Golf Club, Saturday, July 11, 2015 from 5pm to 8pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Desert Valley Hospice Society. Condolences and tributes may be directed to the family by visiting www.nunes-pottinger.com Arrangements entrusted to Nunes-Pottinger Funeral Service & Crematorium, Oliver & Osoyoos.
