MACKENZIE, John Elwood: Born November 15, 1930 to George and Amy in Canavoy, Prince Edward Island, the fifth of nine children; passed away June 20, 2015 in Kelowna, BC. After spending his early years on the family farm, he moved to Marathon, Ontario in 1950 and went to work for Marathon Pulp Mill where he was a Heavy Equipment/Crane Operator for the next 39 years. He was highly respected for his precise operating skills on the heavy machines and whenever there was an unusual or challenging job to do the catch phrase was, "call MacKenzie." He married Mary Lu in 1957 and they raised their family in Marathon until his retirement in 1990 when he moved to Kelowna, BC. He spent his time working in his garden, learning to swim and play bridge, travelling extensively and camping in the motorhome when and wherever the whim would take him. He always had a trusty dog by his side. He was a very kind and gentle man whose greatest delight was spending time with his family, his dogs and specially his four grandsons. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all his family and friends and especially wife Mary Lu, sons Richard (Cathy), and Chris (Bill) and grandsons Jordan, Jasper, Benjamin and Carson. He was predeceased by sons David and Peter. Service at the Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC on Saturday, June 27 at 10:00 a.m. Donations in lieu of flowers to the charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.springfieldfuneralhome.com, 250-860-7077.
