SCHNEIDER, VIOLET ELIZABETH "BETTY" (nee Thomas): September 2, 1917-July 14, 2015. It is with great sadness that the family of Betty Schneider announce her passing. She'll be forever loved and missed by all of us. She is survived by her loving son Ronald (Dawn) Schneider of Kelowna, daughters Rhona Levine of Mackenzie and Sheila (Bob) Daly of Okanagan Falls also by her sister Kathleen Doyle of Okanagan Falls, grandchildren Linda, Ronald, Vance, Paula, Scott, Jim, Dean, Meredith, Gary and Darcy, and many great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews residing across Canada , USA & Japan. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward & Violet Thomas, husband Ernest, youngest daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Terry Locke as well as sons-in-law Gary Kirkpatrick, Robert (Neil) Levine, her two sisters & their husbands Rene (Dave) Clarke and Mary (Mel) McGregor, brothers-in-law Duncan Lynch and Jim Doyle along with a great granddaughter Courtney Sigmund-White. Mom was born in Vancouver, BC on September 2, 1917. She was raised on her parent's fruit orchard on Allendale Lake Road in Okanagan Falls, worked in the Penticton and Kaleden Packing houses as a teenager. She met Ernie at a local dance, fell in love and they were married on July 28, 1935 in the Okanagan Falls United Church. It was the first formal wedding in the 'Blasted Church'. The newlyweds resided briefly in Penticton before moving to Hedley, BC where Dad worked at the Hedley Mascot Mine until 1941 when the mine closed. Dad was then hired on by Burrard Shipyards in North Vancouver, where they moved and set down roots and raised their family until retirement in 1973. In 1975 they returned to Okanagan Falls building their final home right across the lane from the original homestead. Mom not only left a true legacy of Motherhood but also of Womanhood. Mom was a soft gentle person who found great joy in being with her family and caring for them. She always put the needs of her family before her own. She was a wonderful listener and encouraged the philosophy of turning the other cheek, giving a second chance and never telling secrets. She loved to laugh and received joy from poetry, nature and animals. She loved local and BC history and was a founding member of the Okanagan Falls Heritage Society. The family would like to acknowledge and give thanks to Dr. Frasinski, all of the nurses and staff at the Haven Hill Retirement Centre for their loving, compassionate care over the past two years. We also appreciate the kindness and the support of all those who took time out of their lives to visit with Mom. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Okanagan Falls United Church on Mom's birthday, September 2nd at 11 am with a tea to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations on Mom's behalf may be made to the BC Cancer Foundation or Alzheimer Society of BC.
