Fox, Ludwig: Ludwig passed away in Kelowna, BC on July 19, 2015 of pancreatic cancer. He was born in 1927 in Nieder-Weisel, Germany and raised in Butzbach. He trained to become an aircraft mechanic but that aspiration ended when he briefly became a POW in May 1945. Opportunities were limited so he returned home to work for the family roofing business despite a fear of heights. Additional apprenticeships were served as butcher and machinist. He finally managed to use his original trade, working for Pan American Airlines in Frankfurt. With his wife Inge, Ludwig immigrated to Canada 1959 and settled in Batawa, Ontario where he worked as a machinist with Bata Engineering. Their children were born in nearby Trenton. In 1966 Ludwig decided to become a teacher, graduating with difficulty a year later from the Ontario College of Education in Toronto. Moving to Niagara Falls in 1967, he was one of the original teachers at Lord Elgin Vocational School, teaching Metal Fabrication. Experiencing his own academic challenges allowed Ludwig to empathize with his students and he was always proud of them when they moved on to successful careers after graduating. Many of the staff at Lord Elgin became lifelong friends. Ludwig was a member of Stamford United Church where he and Inge met some of their dearest friends. Ludwig retired in 1993 and with Inge, moved out to Kelowna to be closer to their children who had both moved west. In Kelowna they found a steady supply of fruit, new friends and a caring community at the Church of God. Ludwig is survived by his wife Inge, and son Andrew (Verna). He is predeceased by his daughter Kathy (Stevyn). He will be missed by his grandchildren (Lukas, Roman, Adam, Rae, Jaden and Fiona) as well as family in BC, Ontario, California and Germany. A memorial for Ludwig will be held at 10:30 AM on August 8, 2015 at the Church of God, 3705 Mission Springs Drive, Kelowna, BC. In lieu of flowers, Ludwig asked that donations be made to The Church of God Benevolent Fund or the BC Knowledge Network.
