HUBBARD, Muriel Ellen: A long-time resident of Kelowna passed away in Spring Valley Care Centre on July 24th, 2015, at the age of 105 years. She is lovingly remembered and will be sadly missed by her four daughters: Norine (Winnipeg, MB), Enid (North Bay, ON). Kaye-Marie (Oliver) and Faith (Kelowna), nine grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and seven great, great grandchildren. Muriel was predeceased by husband Robert, daughter Beryl Lucy and son Robbie, sons-in-law Maurice Goulet, Terry Stepanow, Dan Bastien, Eddie Yuckin and Bill Butticci. She was born in Whitchurch, England, immigrated to Canada with her family in 1926, lived in Sask. for 14 years and in Ont. for 17 years before moving to B.C. in 1957. Muriel was a prolific knitter for most of her life: dresses and sweaters for wee grandchildren, afghans for daughters, and large knitted dolls and delightful teddy bears or Scottie dogs for many. After she'd donated more than 100 trauma teddies to the RCMP, their Victim Witness Branch presented Muriel with a special RCMP Service Pin. She continued knitting until her eyesight failed and changing colours became impossible; thereafter she knit plain dishcloths which everyone loved. Muriel was a life member of the Rebekah Lodge and was known to many as the Sunshine Lady. She loved sunflowers and lavender. In lieu of flowers or plants, donations to the CNIB for macular degeneration research would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Valleyview Funeral Home (250) 765-3147. Ceremony is 1 PM, Friday July 31. 165 Valleyview Road, Kelowna. BC. Please visit www.valleyviewfuneralhome.com to send condolences to the family.
