DAFOE, LAURA BONNIE: Oct. 7, 1917 - Dec. 15, 2013 Bonnie passed away peacefully on December 15th at Summerland Seniors Village at the age of 96. Born in Ottawa, Bonnie arrived in Penticton with her family aboard the S.S. Sicamous in 1921. Predeceased by her brother Van Dafoe in 1981, and her sister Eleanor Dalby (Dafoe) in 1991, Bonnie will be lovingly remembered by her nieces, Trudy Garnons-Williams (Dafoe), Claire Kelly (Dalby), Dorothy Waycott (Dafoe), Frances Jonson (Dalby), and 10 great nieces and nephews. A gifted writer, Bonnie has left a rich legacy of her journals, poems and vignettes, three of which were recently published in the book "Tales Out Of School". As a young girl, her poetry and short compositions appeared frequently on the Young Co-Operators Page of the Western Producer, and reflected her great love of the Okanagan. An accomplished pianist, Bonne earned her ARCT in piano and frequently accompanied choirs, soloists and musical productions. She received great joy and satisfaction from her lifelong love of music. Bonnie was also a keen photographer and loved to travel, including trips to the Maritimes, Hawaii, Europe, and her much loved dude-ranch in the Caribou. She hiked with the South Okanagan Naturalists Club and swam in Okanagan and Skaha Lakes until she was well into her seventies. Bonnie enjoyed a successful and satisfying career as a legal stenographer. Held in high regard by her employers Boyle & Co. and Kinsmen & Co., she completed her working days at Penticton City Hall in 1982. A longtime member of the Business and Professional Women's Club, Canadian Club and Community Concerts Association, Bonnie also volunteered for the Okanagan Valley Music Festival. You live on in us in so many ways and we will miss you. By request, there will be no service. A special thank you to the staff at Summerland Seniors Village for the kind and compassionate care that Bonnie received during the past six years.
