LEIGH, LAURA M. May 9, 1914 - Dec 22, 2013 Laura Magdeline Leigh passed away at the age of 99 at the Haven Hill Retirement Center in Penticton BC. She was born on May 9th, 1914 in Dooley Montana, the daughter of Olive and Charles Lee. Laura grew up in Strasbourg, Sask and later moved to Choiceland, Sask where her step-father, Charles Emanuelson, acquired a nearby farm. She married John Leigh on Oct. 24, 1939. They farmed near Choiceland until 1953 when they moved to Saskatoon. She resided there until 2005 when she moved to Penticton, BC. Laura lived a long and full life. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother and a true and faithful friend. She was an active member of her community. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Choiceland and St. Mark's Anglican Church in Saskatoon. She was employed for many years at Meads Drugstore in Saskatoon. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, reading and bingo and she was an avid fan of both golf and curling. She was pre-deceased by her three sisters: Eileen Emanuelson, Helen Baerwald, Dorothy Cowles, and a brother, Willard Lee, her husband, John Leigh and her second husband, George Maruk. She is survived by her son, Barry Leigh (Gail), step-grandchildren, James and Brenda Lannard and great grandchildren, Evan and Rhys. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews to mourn her passing. A sincere "Thank You" is sent to Dr. A. Pugachev, the staff at Haven Hill retirement Center and the staff and home care workers at Charles Manor. A graveside memorial at Woodlawn Cemetery in Saskatoon will be held later in 2014.
