HOLOWIESKI, HELEN (Chepluk) It is with great sadness the family of Helen Holowieski announces her peaceful passing on January 8, 2014 at the age of 102. Helen was born a coal miner's daughter in Calgary and as a young child moved to a farm in the Thorhild Alberta area. She met her husband Brownie there and the two were married in 1929. They farmed in the area and then homesteaded in Athabasca, Alberta. In 1956 they gave up farming to purchase a rooming house in Penticton, BC. Helen managed the rooming house, worked in the fruit packing industry and was a homemaker. She also enjoyed organic gardening and quilting. She was active in the community until her later years. Helen always enjoyed welcoming relatives and friends to their home in Penticton. Helen is survived by her sister, Lucy Dubeta, relatives in the Ukraine, many nieces and nephews and many friends throughout Canada. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Lucy, by her husband in 2003, by her sister, Faye in 2009 and brothers, Joe, Frank and Bill. Her family would like to thank Dr. John Hughes for his compassion over the many years as well as the staff at Concorde Assisting Living Facility and the staff at Haven Hill Retirement Center. A Funeral Ceremony will be held on Friday, January 17, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Parkview Chapel, 1258 Main Street, Penticton, BC. Burial will be held in Egremont, Alberta at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Penticton Regional Hospital. Condolences may be sent to the family through providencefuneralhomes.com
