PLAIN, George Duncan Born July 3, 1926, son of Leroy and Rita Plain, left this earth peacefully on January 12, 2014 at the age of 87 years. George was born near Sheddon, Ontario. He was the first son in a family of five children, Mary, Don, Shirley and Bill. George's family was originally a farming family and he maintained his love of the land for his entire life. At a young age, his family moved from Ontario to the community of Pibroch, Alberta, which is near Westlock, Alberta. This is where George met the love of his life, Anna Bernice Campbell. George and Anna were married on November 14, 1947 and began their new life in Pibroch on their own farm. They mixed farmed to support their growing family. They had six children, Larry (Lori Whitcutt), Bradley (Joy Butwilofski), Connie (Peter Swaisland), Joyce (Simon Grant), Shaunet (Andrew Barton), and George Junior (Yvonne Faber). The first four of their children, Larry, Brad, Connie and Joyce, were born in Pibroch and then the family decided to move to the coastal town of White Rock to another farm where several of their brothers and sisters were already farming. This is where the last two children, Shaunet and George Junior, were born. George and Anna farmed for another 10 years in White Rock before moving to Kelowna. They owned and operated the Kenogan Motel for years, welcoming many tourists to all of the wonders of the valley. After 10 years of running this business, they sold the motel and George began working at the Kelowna Golf and Country Club as a greenskeeper until his retirement. He loved running the big machinery and always brought home golf balls and mystery mushrooms. At this time they moved to the their home of 30 years on Calmels Crescent near the golf course. George and Anna have enjoyed many years with their six children, spouses, and 14 grandchildren and spouses. There was always a home full of love, laughter, good meals, a lot of singing, puzzle making and harmonica playing. In addition to having a strong love for his family, George enjoyed fishing, hunting, curling, gardening, square dancing, and nature in all its glory. George and Anna recently moved to the Okanagan Chateau in Kelowna where they made many new friends. George will be dearly missed by his wife Anna, all of his children, grandchildren and the many people who he shared his life with. His memory will be held strongly in our hearts forever. We love you dearest Husband, Dad, and Grandpa. Thank you for all of the memories, love and laughter. Please come and join us to celebrate George's life and to share your thoughts, feelings and memories. Memorial services will be held at First Memorial Funeral Home at 1211 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, BC on Tuesday, January 21, 2014. Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
