BROWN, ROY COVENTRY Passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at Penticton Regional Hospital, Penticton on Sat. Jan. 25, 2014. Born May 11, 1938 and predeceased by parents James T. and Minnie (Gorsalitz) Brown and brother Robert J. (Bob) Brown of Osoyoos. Roy is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Edna (Holm), daughter Lisa and husband Richard Re of Regina, SK and granddaughters Jessica and Alison, son Mark and wife Ayron of Lethbridge, AB and grandsons Tyler, Joshua, Riley and Matthew; and great granddaughter Dahlia as well as many more extended family. Roy began his radio career in 1958 at CKBI in Prince Albert, SK, CKRD Red Deer, AB, WECL Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA, and finally settling in Regina, SK at CKRM, then CKCK Radio & TV. His career encompassed many aspects of communications and public relations. He was best known as the "Voice of the Riders" in-park announcer for the Saskatchewan Roughriders spanning 29 seasons. He continued behind the microphone in his new home in Penticton as game announcer for the Penticton Vees junior hockey club. Roy gave freely of his time and experience volunteering in the community and service groups including Jaycees, Lions, Past Master of N.W.M.P. Lodge and WaWa Shrine Club. As often as he was in front of the public, he was more often behind the scenes doing whatever was needed to get the job done. Roy's retirement in Penticton was highlighted by travelling and many days on the golf course as a member of the Penticton Golf Club. Roy's sense of humour and easygoing nature will be missed by everyone who knew him. His spirit will live on through his lifelong passion for art--his watercolours and oil paintings hang in many homes and businesses around the world and will be forever treasured. Roy's family would like to thank Dr. Jeff Harries and the many doctors and nurses who provided such compassionate care. Thank you also to extended family and friends who provided support during this difficult time. Flowers gratefully declined. Those wishing to do so, may donate In Memoriam to the Canadian Cancer Society. No service at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
