ARMSTRONG, MARION: Passed away in Penticton on January 29, 2014, a few months short of her 101st birthday. Marion was born in Granum, Alberta and met Bob, her husband to be, at the University of Alberta. Bob went north to the newly discovered gold camp at Yellowknife and on one of his infrequent trips out, proposed to Marion, but time was pressing so they eloped to Las Vegas for a Vegas-style wedding. As a young bride, Marion was one of Canada's women pioneers of the north in Yellowknife and Thompson-Lundmark in the 1930's and early 1940's. Throughout her life she was passionate about painting, studied at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Montréal and became an avid student of art and an accomplished painter and teacher. In her later years, after she put away her brush and palette, she became a supporter of the arts in Penticton and played an important role in the development of the Penticton Art Gallery. Predeceased by her husband Bob in 2002, she is sadly missed by sons, Bill (Laurie) and Bob (Susan); five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Dr. Kooy and the staff at the Hamlets for their love and perennial attention, and her many friends in the Hamlets and Penticton for enriching her life.
