PANTON, Evelyn Jeanette Irene July 9, 1918 - February 06, 2014 Our most loving Mother, Evelyn Jeanette Irene Panton (nee Ashley) passed away peacefully in her sleep and at home in Vancouver, having lived a long, happy and well loved life. Mom was predeceased by her adoring husband of 64 years, Jim (2008) and her two brothers, Lawrence and Eugene Ashley of Kelowna. Forever to be loved and missed by her four boys, Don (Loree), Bob (Stephanie), Bruce (Anna) and Dave (Bobbie); eight grandchildren, Ryan (Marita), James (Mary), Jenn (Josh), Ashley (Adam), Vanessa, Mikal, Dain and Nicole; one great grandson, Charlie; two sisters-in-law, Eileen Ashley and Joan Williams; and Colleen Nielsen, whose love and care for her in her final years was offered as if she had been her own daughter. We are all the lucky benefactors of Mom's gentle, loving nature. Her welcoming smile and soft eyes were always assuring us that we were exactly who she wanted to see and be with. Mom's love, encouragement and trust were unwavering and unconditional. She was always there when you needed a hug, someone to listen and especially to encourage you. Our family was her great love and her life's work. Her love and devotion to our father was bottomless. Her travel adventures with Dad captivated our imaginations and set paths for us all to follow. She set an eternal example of goodness for everyone to see and appreciate. Born in Macklin, Saskatchewan in 1918, but moving to Kelowna with her family as a child allowed her to experience the warm magic of Okanagan sunshine and ultimately the opportunity to meet and marry Jim in the summer of 1943. Moving to Victoria in 1958, Mom continued to support Dad's career, growing sons, family summer vacations in Kelowna and finally Dad's legendary gold medal Master's Swimming accomplishments. The rest is a wonderful history for her 4 sons and extended family, recorded forever on Dad's 8mm movies. She was our perfect Mom, Granny and Friend. In lieu of flowers, and in the spirit of her life's work, her sons ask her memory to be best honored with a random act of kindness. A private family Celebration of Life will take place March 1.
