SPENCER, Margaret Anne Elvin (nee Airth) Peggy left us the same way she lived every day of her life; with beauty, grace and dignity. She was born in 1926 in New Westminster, the youngest of six children of Henry C. Airth and Ruth Elvin. She graduated from Duke of Connaught High School and continued her education at the Vancouver School of Art. Peggy began her career as an Illustrator in the Advertising Department of David Spencer Ltd., where she met her future husband, Victor Spencer. Married in June of 1951 and residing in West Vancouver, she quickly learned to juggle being an attentive wife and mother to her growing family, while also being a charming hostess of countless social gatherings. Numerous years of BC Lions events were also an integral part of her early life. Peggy was involved in many volunteer organizations such as the Vancouver Junior League, Vancouver Garden Club and Vancouver Christmas Charity Ball. When Holt Renfrew opened in Vancouver, Peggy just had to be involved and enjoyed being an instrumental part of their immediate success. In her quiet moments she loved working in her gardens, painting and enjoying her lakeside views. Many fond memories remain from the fun filled days and nights spent in Casa Loma with family and friends spanning six decades. Peggy will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 63 years, Victor V. Spencer; her daughters, Janice Spencer and Andrea Hunter (nee Spencer); her son, Victor (Andrea) and her grandchildren: Victor, David, Michael and Paloma Spencer. She is also survived by her sister, Isabelle Loveless and many other family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice. A family memorial will be held at a later date. Mom, you held our hands for a while and you will hold our hearts forever. We will miss you.
