OWENS, GERALD (GERRY) Peacefully, Gerald Daniel Joseph Owens, age 74, died Friday, March 28, 2014 at Penticton Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, on August 16, 1939 to parents Phyllis Jackson and Donald Davidson. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Linda; daughter, Danita Adams; daughter-in-law, Cindy Lau-Owens; son, Chris Owens. He has 4 grandchildren, Matthew, Sarahlinda, Taryn and Alyssa. He is also survived by sister, Elizabeth and Ronnie; extended family, Ray and Barb Schmidt, Jim and Bev Getty, brother-in-law, Ken Getty. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great-nephews as well as many special friends and his buddy Bailey. It was with sadness that he was pre-deceased by his son Dale Owens in December 2010. Gerry had a deep love and appreciation for family. He often used the phrase that his brother-in-law used "families are important". Gerry was very passionate about his music, playing guitar and singing. He loved being part of the "Praise and worship team" at Concordia Lutheran Church. He started playing for the Traditional worship team over 18 years ago and progressed to playing on the Celebration Worship team. He played on the VBS Praise team during many summers and really enjoyed the children watching "Jumping Gerry" play guitar. Over the years Gerry played in bands and loved to be part of musicians jamming their guitars! Gerry enjoyed being with family and was very proud of his grandchildren and loved them very much. Gerry joined the Canadian Armed Forces at 17 years old and was a gunner with Royal Canadian Horses Artillery 2RCHA until he was honorably discharged in 1968. He spent time in Germany under NATO. Gerry was past president of the Royal Canadian Legion in Keremeos. We want to thank all the staff from 3rd floor Med South, 4th floor Dialysis, ICU and ER including doctors, nurses, lab technicians, caretakers and service staff for the extraordinary care given to Gerry during his time in the hospital. I would especially like to thank Dr. Toneff, Dr. Forzley and Dr. Hochman. I want to give a special thanks to all visitors who came to visit, sing and pray with Gerry, and a special thank you to all the pastors and ministers who came to give Gerry a Blessing and spent time praying with him. The Celebration of Life is at Concordia Lutheran Church, 2800 South Main St., Penticton on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with a light lunch to follow. Please feel free in lieu of flowers to donate to a charity of choice or to the Kidney Foundation. Condolences can be sent to the family by visiting www.everdenrust.com
