DeGROOT, Gertrude Irene Went peacefully to be with the Lord on April 7th, 2014 - 11 days after her 90th birthday. She will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Lawrie, Wayne and Ric (Trina); and daughters, Marilyn (Ken) Bartel and Lois (Robert) Edwards; 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 4 sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Dave in 2007 and eldest son Gordon in 2011. She, herself, was the eldest of five, all of whom predeceased her. Gertrude was born in Plum Coulee, Manitoba and moved to Kelowna in 1951 with her husband, Dave. She was a serious homemaker, gardener, baker, seamstress and not-too-serious Scrabble player. She was always involved in her church, especially singing in the choir, and lived a life of commitment to God and her family. Nothing was more important to her. She was grateful for small kindness shown her, and was especially appreciative for the excellent care and compassion that she received from the outstanding staff at Sutherland Hills Rest Home. Gertrude will be greatly missed by family and friends. A celebration of life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, April 12th, 2014, at Mission Creek Alliance Church, 2091 Springfield Rd., Kelowna. Arrangements in care of Everden Rust Funeral Services, (250) 860-6440. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting everdenrust.com
