Known as Philippe, he was born September 15, 1932 to Arthur and Antoinette Lessard in Shawinigan, Quebec, and reared in Val-d'Or, Quebec. In his early twenties, Philippe moved west to Beaverdell, B.C., where he was a hard rock miner for more than 40 years and served on the mine rescue team. Philippe and the love of his life, Delia, were married June 1959 at the Hitching Post in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Philippe, a labour relations representative, worked hard and was known for his fairness. He also played hard. As a young man, he was an excellent amateur hockey player. Throughout his life, he followed college and professional sports. He especially loved the NHL and was a Habs fan to the end. Philippe was an avid reader, student of history and follower of national and provincial politics. He had an infectious laugh; loved classical music, steak, red wine and whiskey; and enjoyed a good joke and game of cards. He is preceded in death by his wife Delia, his parents and siblings, and stepchildren Merv and Pat Williams, Sid Williams, Marlene Hood and Betty Lou Manley. Philippe is survived by stepchildren Lloyd (Clare) Williams, Percy Williams, Fran Williams, Shirley (Lorne) Lewis, Bud Hood, Russ (Gayle) Williams and John Manley, as well as several nieces and nephews and numerous cherished grand and great-grand children. The family would like to express sincere appreciation and gratitude to Ingrid Dernowski and the wonderful staff at Mariposa for their outstanding care of Philippe.
