LIM, DR. DON WAH MAY 25, 1922 ...

LIM, Dr. Don Wah May 25, 1922 - May 12, 2014 Don was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. He is survived by Gloria, his loving wife of 57 years and their five children Julia, Dawn, Michael, Dianne, and Caroline, 8 grandchildren, three siblings Walter (Wan), Lily (Frank - deceased), Robert (Louise - deceased), sister-in-law Grace (wife of On, predeceased) many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two brothers and a sister: Frank, On and Fannie. Don was very involved in the Okanagan community as a doctor, businessman, and friend. He was a very dedicated father to his family. Don's long career in medicine spanned over 49 years. He was accepted into medical school at Queens' University in Kingston, Ontario where he graduated in 1946 at the top of his class. His family practice began in Vancouver and Queen Charlotte Islands before coming to Kelowna in 1949. To further his medical career, Don and Gloria moved to Portland, Oregon from 1957 - 1959, where he was selected as one of six elite students to study under the guidance of Dr. Kenneth Swan for his Ophthalmology residency. Returning to Kelowna, Don became one of first Ophthalmologists at Kelowna General Hospital as an eye specialist and surgeon, retiring his practice in l995. He has been honoured with his portrait in the new Centennial Eye Clinic at KGH. He was active in tennis, golf and loved annual fishing trips with family and friends. Forever a scholar, he had a passion for learning new languages, history, art, and always reading, especially the Globe and Mail and medical journals. His favourite music included jazz and classical selections. Don and Gloria travelled the world together to many distant places, enjoyed cruises, RV'ing, and family station wagon trips. He also loved taking walks and car rides with his grand dog, Charlie. The family is forever grateful to the wonderful doctors, nurses, and care aids at both Kelowna General Hospital and Cottonwoods who cared for Don with much love and compassion. Donations in Don's name may be made to the Eye Care Centre, Kelowna General Hospital or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, 3 pm at Kelowna Golf and Country Club, 1297 Glenmore Drive, Kelowna, BC.
