MCDONALD, JOAN Died in Penticton May 22, 2014. Our most cherished Mum was born in England June 29, 1917. She completed nurse's training in Lancashire England and worked in various capacities as a nurse in England, Ireland and Canada. Mum was well respected and formally honored in her field of nursing as well as her accomplishments while serving on various boards and committees in her community. She was an adventurous woman and traveled to many countries, including return trips to Wales and Ireland to reconnect with her family roots. She enjoyed golfing, curling and was very active in her church. Mum could beat us all at scrabble, crossword and card games well into her 90's, even while blind. Her love of the outdoors lasted to her final days, as she got so much enjoyment from her favorite gardens and decks. She was predeceased by her husband Terence and her beloved daughter, Helen. She is survived by 8 children, 26 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. The family would like to acknowledge the support and special friendships she developed with staff and residents at The Concorde and thank Trinity Care staff for their care of Mum in the last year of her life. Thanks to Dr. Toneff for his care and the respectful manner in which he treated Mum and her family over many years. Mum was surrounded by the love, care and laughter of her large family. We would like to especially recognize the dedicated love and care given in Mum's last years by her daughter Joan Dingman, who resides in Penticton with her husband Bob. In lieu of flowers, Mum had chosen the MS Society or the C.N.I.B. for your donations.
