DEWAR, Malcolm "Mac": It is with heartfelt sadness and fond memories that the family announces the passing of Malcolm 'Mac' Dewar, of Oyama, who passed away on October 16, 2014 in his 91st year. Mac will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Lorna, of 58 years; his children: Donna (Jim) Lelacheur, Lori (Jim) Blair, Gary (Cheryl) Dewar, and Gregg (Heather) Dewar; and grandchildren: Keith (Michelle), Kirsten (Aaron), Anna, Kalla (Kyle), Jarred, and Liam. He was predeceased by his mother, Dora (1936), brother, Duncan (1944), and father, Donald (1953). Mac was born November 14, 1923 in Vernon and lived all his life in the current family home in Oyama. He joined the Air Force in 1942 and obtained the rank of Flying Officer. In 1945, at the end of World War II, he returned to Oyama and took over the orchard from his father. Mac was a founding and life member of the Royal Canadian Legion - Oyama Branch #189 and a founding member and treasurer of the Oyama Volunteer Fire Department. He served on the Vernon Fruit Union Board and was Chairman for a time, the Wood Lake Water District Board and the Executive of the Oyama Community Club. With his everlasting smile, bright blue eyes, gentle humour and easy ways about him; Mac will be greatly missed by everyone. The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the staff at Lake Country Lodge for their compassionate care of Mac over the past 2 1/2 years. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make a memorial donation in Mac's memory to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation (2101 - 32 Street, Vernon, BC V1T 5L2), or to a charity of their choice.
