GILLIS, Vivian Gwendolyn (nee McKenzie): Jan. 4, 1935 - Oct. 22, 2014 It is with heavy heart, but much gratitude for her release, that we share the sudden passing of our beloved mom Vivian Gillis on Wednesday, October 22, at Penticton Regional Hospital. She remained fully present until her final breath and her transition was very quick. She was predeceased by her husband Roland in 2012 and is survived by her 5 children: Edine Simpson (Peter), Diane Hill, Colleen Smith (Al), Kathy Sherwood (Scott) and Ken Gillis (Shannon), and by her 12 cherished grandchildren. Throughout most of her career, Mom was a highly regarded and valued elementary school teacher who taught more from the heart than the rules and regulations. After retiring from education, she worked in daycare settings and later opened her home to provide care for children. She continued doing so up until 4 years ago. Mom was an avid reader with a keen interest in spirituality and natural health, and delighted in sharing her findings with loved ones. We will continue to benefit from her immense bank of knowledge and wisdom. She was a favourite aunt, sister, cousin and friend, and naturally assumed a nurturing role to those in need of "a mom". In her quiet, unassuming, generous manner she touched the lives of so many. But first and foremost, and with much fervor and passion, she was a fiercely devoted mother and grandmother, and it is that she will be most remembered for. Special thanks to nurses Brittney and Sam and Dr. Burgoyne for their outstanding care. There will be no service as per Mom's request. She will make her final resting place at the coast in the ocean she so dearly loved. Always Victory Mom. Condolences may be shared by visiting www.everdenrust.com
