CRUICKSHANK MMM, CD, CWO (Retd) Angus Forbes: November 23, 1930 - November 8, 2014. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Forbes. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Beth, six children: Susan, Dick (Joanne), Brad (Susan), Charlotte (Tom), Sheila (Eric), and Sandy (Denise) and many grandchildren/great-grandchildren. Forbes had a long and distinguished life after moving to Kelowna in 1941. He was selected to attend Banff National Army Cadet Camp in 1948, he was recognized as the Top Sheet metal Apprentice in BC in 1950, he was awarded the Centennial and Jubilee medals and in 1980 was awarded the rare honour of being made a Member of the Order of Military Merit. Forbes worked as a logger, sheet metal worker urnace installer, soldier, and warehouse supervisor at Bennett's. His best memories were being a member of the British Columbia Dragoons. He joined in 1948 and his career culminated as the Regimental Sergeant Major (most Senior Non-Commissioned Officer in the unit) in 1980. He had a great adventure when he deployed as a young Trooper in the Joint Canadian-US Exercise Sweetbriar up the Alaska Highway into the Yukon in 1950. Over his 32 years with the BCD, he proudly served in many roles and locations but took special pride that all six of his children followed him into service with Army Cadets and the military. Upon Forbes' retirement, he put his energies into volunteer organizations including the Whizzbangs Regimental Association, Royal Canadian Legion and the Military Museum. His many years of work on behalf of the BCDs were recognized in 2012 when he was presented with the Order of the British Columbia Dragoons. Forbes will be cremated and no funeral will be held per his request. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Forbes would have wanted you to direct a donation in his name to either the Whizzbangs, PO Box 20162, RPO Towne Centre, Kelowna, BC V1Y 9H2 or Okanagan Military Museum Society, Box 24079, RPO Towne Centre.
