BRICKENDEN, CPL. GORDON JAMES ...

BRICKENDEN, Cpl. Gordon James (Rtd. RCMP): (Cpl.) Gordon J. Brickenden passed away after his long and difficult battle with Alzheimer's Disease on Aug.24, 2015, at Village at Mill Creek, where his Family had kept bed-side vigil for several days. Left to mourn his loss are his wife, Marilyn; daughters Lori Brickenden and Marianne (Brad) Dahl; son Tom (Cathy) Brickenden and his much beloved grandchildren, Alexa and Landon Brickenden. Other family, Bill, Margaret, Paul and Christa Phillips, as well as many other cousins, nieces, and nephews in the Toronto, Calgary, and BC areas. He was predeceased by his father and mother, William and Lorena Brickenden, his brother Arthur and sisters Dorothy, Marianne, and Ruth. He was born May 28, 1932 in Toronto, ON, where he spent his school years enjoying each summer at the family cottage at Wimblewood Beach at Georgian Bay, before joining the RCMP in 1953 ('O' Troop) spending his training time in Regina & Ottawa. He was stationed to BC with early postings in Prince George, Dawson Creek, Ft. St. John, and Kitimat before being transferred to Vernon where he met and married his wife, Marilyn (Phillips). They and their 3 children endured many moves as he was transferred to Richmond, I/C Pemberton/Whistler Det., Richmond again, then Penticton, and finally Summerland where he retired after 27 yrs service. They then moved again to Kelowna where he began employment with the City of Kelowna for 11 years until retiring one last time! He enjoyed his retirement years building their new home, camping, walking, fishing, gardening until he was sidelined permanently by Alzheimer's. The Family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the kind, caring and extremely patient staff from Village at Mill Creek (Skaha unit) as well as Dr. Alexis Thomson for many years of thoughtful care. A Celebration of Life will be held September 5, 2015 at Magnolia Gardens Clubhouse, 535 Houghton Rd., Kelowna, BC starting at 2 pm.
