BEAVER, MARILYN AGNES (NEE OFF...

BEAVER, Marilyn Agnes (nee Offenberger)1941-2014 Good Samaritan, wife, mother, sister, friend and lover of life, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Loving wife of Ray Beaver of Edmonton, dear mother of Michael (Theresa) and Shawn (Crystal) of Edmonton, and Shannon (Greg) of Toronto. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Colin, Stephanie, Darren, Erin and Kayleigh and brother Dr. Allan Offenberger and his wife Marg of Edmonton. Marilyn was a graduate nurse of Vancouver General Hospital. Nursing is a caring profession, and Marilyn believed in caring, giving and supporting her family, friends and community. Her leadership skills came easily to her. Marilyn was; President, Registered Nurse's Association of B.C. (Burnaby chapter); President, Beta Sigma Phi (Vancouver and Saskatoon chapter); President, Confederation Club (Kitchener/Waterloo) the year of its 25th anniversary; President, Kitchener/Waterloo Probus Club that same year; Chair, Viennese Ball for the 50th Anniversary Kitchener/Waterloo Symphony; Chair of the Board, First United Church (Waterloo); Board member, K-W Arthritic Society, Committee member, Pastoral Care (Presbytery); Board of Governance, St. Mary's Hospital (Kitchener). Volunteering in her community was also important, where she was involved as; Brownie leader; Red Cross home nurse course instructor for teenagers; Red Cross Blood Donor clinic volunteer; cancer patient driver. She also ran the Health Care Clinic at Beaconsfield High School (Beaconsfield, Quebec), coordinating 14 Registered nurses. Marilyn recently returned to her beloved field of nursing to work at the Optimum Health Clinic, where her nursing skills, compassionate heart, and dedication were put to practice with her clients and coworkers who were like an extended family. Marilyn enjoyed the fellowship of her friends through bridge, local community events, and her speaking club, Probus. At Marilyn's request, there will be no visitation, but please join us for an Evening to Remember and to Celebrate her Life on Monday, January 20 between 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at the South Side Memorial's Reception Centre; 8310-104 Street, Edmonton.
