DARBY, Gladys "Ruth" Passed away peacefully January 12, 2014 in Abbotsford, BC. She is survived by her brother Barrie, her sister Cathie, her 3 children, Susan (Jim), Jim (Tricia), and Gordon (Linda), 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Ruth grew up in Kelowna where she loved to swim in the summer and ice skate in the winter. She attended nurses training at Vancouver General Hospital before a life long career in nursing. She worked in private practice, at Lions Gate Hospital and in respiratory nursing before she retired. Her interest in Nursing took her to Bella Bella the summer after grade 12 where she met her future husband Jerry (predeceased in 2010). Ruth raised her family In North Vancouver where she enjoyed singing in the church choir as well as operetta performances. She also enjoyed attending her children's' basketball games at Carson Graham and North Van High. As well as in, North Vancouver, Ruth and Jerry lived in Birch Bay, WA, Penticton, BC and Abbotsford. Ruth had a profound effect on all who knew her, especially those nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. There will not be a public service but a private family gathering will be held to celebrate her life. Remembrances can be made to BC Lung.
