HEIDRICK, James Leonard January 13, 1925 - February 14, 2014 Peacefully in his sleep, at home, on February 14, 2014, Jim Heidrick joined his beloved wife of 63 years, Rolande (Ronnie). Jim was the youngest son of Theodore and Ruby Heidrick. He grew up in Winnipeg's west end in a large happy family that included five brothers: Gordon (Bud), Theodore (Mel), Arthur (Red), Les and Bill; a sister Elizabeth (Dot) and his twin Hazel. He attended Daniel MacIntyre Collegiate. During the war, he served his country in Europe as a pilot in the Royal Canadian Airforce. Returning home, Jim joined the Winnipeg Fire Department, where he remained for over 30 years, never missing a day and often walking three miles to work. He was awarded several medals and commendations for bravery. Jim and Ronnie married in 1950, lived in Winnipeg and then retired to Kelowna in 1980. Together they enjoyed travelling, gardening and volunteering for the Heart and Cancer Associations, Women's Shelter, SPCA and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26. Jim will be missed by many family and friends, especially his nephew and niece Doctors Ted and Sandra Heidrick and family, Sherwood Park, AB; also several other nieces and nephews. We will miss him so much, but we were fortunate to have had such a wonderful man with us for so long. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.
