KENNEDY, Sybil Mary Passed away in Kelowna, BC on March 11, 2014. Born in Leask, Saskatchewan on June 11, 1923, Sybil was the youngest of the five children and the only daughter of Ernest and Polly Mansell. She grew up an avid reader and learner and won the Governor General's Medal for academic excellence for the Shellbrook School District. A keen Girl Guide, she earned the Gold Cord Award. Upon graduation, Sybil attended Secretarial School in Saskatoon. After one year of employment in Saskatoon, she moved to Washington, DC to work for the British Admiralty as part of the war effort. In 1945, she married the love of her life, William Francis (Frank) Kennedy. With Frank, Sybil moved to the Kennedy farm at Abbey, Saskatchewan, where they had two sons: Denis and Bill. Sybil was not only a farm wife and mother but also a community volunteer, typing teacher, Girl Guide leader, mentor to several nieces, and faithful friend. In 1960, Sybil, Frank, and their boys moved to Vauxhall, Alberta, where Sybil led 4-H, served as school librarian, and began lifelong friendships with a series of Australian exchange teachers. In 1971, Sybil and Frank moved to Edmonton. In 1978, the couple retired to Kelowna. In retirement, they gardened, canned cherries and tomatoes, baked pies and pinwheel cookies, traveled extensively, curled, and enjoyed friends and family. Sybil delighted in her four grandchildren: Denis' daughters, Susan and Lisa, and Bill's children, Ben and Kimberly. Sybil was predeceased by Frank in 2003. She continued to enjoy reading, church, playing bridge, corresponding with friends, and hosting extended family for as long as she could. In 2010, she was thrilled to meet her first great-grandchild, Miriam, who was followed by a second great-granddaughter, Eleanor, in 2013. Throughout her life journey, Sybil maintained that she was fortunate. She aged with grace, courage, calm, and a child-like gratitude for simple joys and for the people she loved. A Celebration of Sybil's Life will be held on Friday, March 21st, 2014 at 10:00 AM from Cathedral Church of St. Michael and All Angels, 608 Sutherland Ave. Inurnment will take place in Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
